Surfing Suspended for the Day at Commonwealth Bank Beachley Classic
DEE WHY, Sydney / Australia (Saturday 24th April, 2010) - Surfing has been suspended for the day at event no.4 of the ASP Women’s World Tour, the Commonwealth Bank Beachley Classic in Dee Why, Australia today.
Following two consecutive lay days, Sydney’s Northern Beaches again produced less than ideal 1-2ft (0.5m) beach break conditions for the world’s top female surfers.
With only two days left in the fifth annual event’s waiting period, event director Layne Beachley said she’s optimistic for better wave conditions by Monday.
“We’re not expecting any contestable conditions till Monday, but will access conditions tomorrow for a possible start,” she said.
“But there will be plenty of surfing action at Dee Why today with the ASP top 17 coming up against Sydney’s top celebrities in the Sydney.com Celebrity Challenge at 1pm this afternoon.”
Contest organisers will meet at 7.00am tomorrow morning to make a call whether they’ll push through to Round 3.
The Commonwealth Bank Beachley Classic will run from April 21 through 26, 2010 and will be webcast LIVE via www.beachleyclassic.com
